Go on, what do you have to lose? You’re only missing out on a treasure of the video game world and one of the few franchises that has survived three turbulent decades of video gaming. Ys has been around longer than a majority of Twitch’s user base, and yet, even after all these years, Nihon Falcom’s excellent series can’t find the same love as its contemporaries. You might have heard of these little franchises called Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Final Fantasy.
Yup, Ys has been around just as long as they have, and it remains one of the few holdovers from the 80s.
Let Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, the first home console release for the series in a very long time, be your introduction to Adol Christin and his island infested world. Every time he steps on some random shore, the man is cursed to save the world from an evil plot of global destruction. It’s not an easy life, but when you’re rewarded with the love of blue-haired waifus for your troubles, why not?
This is Adol’s first original adventure in eight years, meaning he’s long overdue to save civilization once again. And no, he’s still as crimson-headed as they come. Not a spot of gray anywhere in those burning locks. I’m jealous.
