Now that CES 2018 is out of the way, our attention shifts to MWC 2018. The trade show taking place in Barcelona next month is more about mobile devices than anything else. Companies who don’t often hold grand launch events on their own throughout the year use this particular industry gathering to introduce new products. Sony is among them, and the Japanese company just sent out invites for an announcement during MWC this year.
Sony’s press conference will be held on Monday, February 26. It’ll be taking place during the morning hours here in the United States but in the late afternoon and into the evening locally in Barcelona. Sony hasn’t confirmed what will debut, but there’s speculation is to what’s coming.
The belief is that the company will launch two new phones, one of which is the 2018 flagship. Sony should make the Xperia XZ Pro official with a 5.7-inch 4K OLED display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. A dual-camera setup with 18MP and 12MP lenses is rumored, too. And a 3420mAh battery is apparently keeping this phone running long on a single charge.
Oreo, the latest version of Android, would be available right out of the box; however, Sony would add its own software overlay to provide a unique experience.
Little is known about the second phone expected at MWC 2018, but it’ll probably be a mid-range phone similar to the Xperia XZ1 Compact. Typically any high-end Xperia phone gets a smaller sibling with not-so-weak specifications.
Be sure to stick with TechnoBuffalo throughout MWC 2018 when the trade show kicks off in late February.
