Xiaomi has some big news coming next week. The company just announced plans for an August 13 event where its MiUI 7 operating system will be unveiled alongside a mysterious new product.

The company doesn’t offer many details on what to expect from MiUI 7, though we’re guessing it will be based on the latest version of Android Lollipop. The new software could also potentially pave the way for new features like USB-C or a fingerprint reader.

As for Xiaomi’s new product, we have a feeling the company may finally reveal its highly-anticipated Mi5 flagship. Android Authority points out that the MiUI 6 and the Mi4 phone were released at around the same time. It’s possible something similar could happen next week.

The Mi5 is expected to feature a Quad HD display, a 3000mAh battery, a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 13-megapixel front-facing shooter. It could cost as little as $386 in China. There’s also the rumored Mi5 Plus, which likely won’t launch until later this year, with a Snapdragon 820 chip and other upgraded specs.

Xiaomi’s announcement is actually taking place on the same day as Samsung’s big event, where we’re expecting to see the Galaxy Note 5 unveiled. That’s a lot of mobile news to take in, and we’ll have it all right here at TechnoBuffalo.
