Well, good news, Microsoft has announced that players will soon be able to completely customize those icons. It comes as part of a major update that will roll out in batches that’s based on Xbox Insider program member feedback. The general public will get it later.

Custom gamerpics are finally here! From your console, Windows 10 PC, or mobile phone, update your gamerpic with a custom image. We’re excited to bring this top fan-requested feature to Xbox Live and expect it to be in preview longer than other features to ensure it’s great for everyone when released.
This update is big on tweaks
There’s lots of stuff here, and most of the major features are for Clubs, Arena and the like. Then there are convenience features, like being able to filter the game library and a portal for Wi-Fi authentication in public internet spots.
This update will hit insiders in batches in the coming weeks, and the public will have access later.
