I was a little grumpy towards the end of this last console generation with games pushing the upper teens in file sizes. Two hours to download, another thirty minutes to install. I just want to play my games and not wait, but apparently that has not become a thing of the past.
Well, there is no happy ending beyond this horizon. Games are going to get bigger and bigger, and hard drives are just going to have to get larger and larger, and waits are going to become longer and longer.
Here is a list of all the Xbox One's launch games and their file sizes.
- Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag – 20GB
- Battlefield 4 – 33GB
- Call of Duty: Ghosts – 39GB
- Dead Rising 3 – 19GB
- FIFA 14 – 8GB
- Fighter Within – 9.2GB
- Forza Motorsport 5 – 31GB
- Just Dance 2014 – 22GB
- Killer Instinct – 3.4GB
- Lococyle – 13GB
- Madden NFL 25 – 12GB
- NBA 2K14 – 43GB
- NBA Live 14 – 9GB
- Powerstar Golf – 3.9GB
- Ryse: Son of Rome – 34GB
- Skylanders: Swap Force – 15GB
- Xbox Fitness – 246MB
- Zoo Tycoon – 2.6GB
- Zumba World Party – 24GB
NBA 2K14 clocks in as the biggest with 43GB, and naturally Call of Duty: Ghost tips the scale at 39GB. Ryse: Son of Rome is no lightweight either with 34GB under its belt.
Just remember, the Xbox One has a 500GB internal hard drive, but it will eventually be supplemented with external drives. You will most likely have to clean out the fridge eventually.
Both Sony and Microsoft have made it a mission to be able to play these games while they are downloading onto their respective consoles. Now it is so obvious why, since otherwise, you might have to wait until the next day to play your launch day title this console generation.
I'm waiting to see how this increase in file size works out mathematically to an increase in game quality. Think it will?
