What you need to know

  • The Xbox Elite Controller is getting a long-awaited update.
  • Supports Bluetooth and USB-C.
  • Charging dock included.
  • Up to 40 hours battery life.

It's been the longest wait, but finally Microsoft is releasing a new version of the Xbox Elite Controller. The Series 2 has a number of improvements over its predecessor, starting with a USB-C port and, thankfully, Bluetooth for dongle-free wireless gameplay on the PC.

The Elite Series 2 also comes with a detachable charging dock, and promises up to 40 hours of battery life per charge. The basic design remains the same, but the tech inside has had some pretty meaningful updates.

First up, you can now store three profiles on the controller, an increase over the two on the current model. The thumbsticks now have adjustable tension — allowing for a much better level of precision — as well as being replaceable.

The paddles return on the back and look the same as the current model. There are now grips on the triggers, and the bumpers have been redesigned as well.

It should be up for pre-order very soon, and we'll update with links as we have them.
