We know Phil Spencer, the Xbox boss, plays games. Recently, Shuhei Yoshida showed off his Bloodborne skills, totally trumping what I’d probably be able to do even after dozens of hours with the game.

Unfortunately, not all those who work at the tops of companies in the gaming industry actually play games as a genuine hobby. The aforementioned Phil Spencer suggests that should change. He even gives a nod to Yoshida in the process.

Spencer is totally right here. Say whatever you want about the current console battle, it’s great to have executives in place who actually know about the gaming medium as pure games. Yoshida and Spencer play games, and their products have slowly but surely become better because of this fact.

They understand the medium, and when decision makers understand the product being sold, that makes for a better product.
