Final Fantasy XV is crawling at a snail’s pace closer and closer to its Nov. 29 release date, but whereas most times I close out my gaming articles with “will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC,” this is one I can’t do that for. Square Enix has yet to confirm a port for Final Fantasy XV on the PC platform, and Director Hajime Tabata won’t chance his stance of it possibly being too huge undertaking.

Speaking with Spanish website Vida Extra, translated by WCCFTech, Tabata wondered aloud about what a PC version of the upcoming game would look like.

On that hypothesis, not talking about something real, just an idea, if we worked on a PC version what I have very clear is that we would work to provide a better version of what we have now on consoles. We could say that something like this would take us more than a year. We should work to adapt the engine, which is very laborious, and from there to develop its course.

While Square Enix has yet to confirm anything and his position hasn’t changed yet, I’m thinking this is an undertaking that Hajime Tabata would like to do. He is also the perfect man for the job and has the best resume to do so. The proof lies in why Square Enix chose to give him the job of reinventing Final Fantasy XV in the first place!

Tabata is a man of the modern world, one who is not bogged down by the traditions of Square Enix’s cumbersome development processes or hierarchy. With a few other rising stars within the company, he is the star-child of a generation of developers who understands what gamers want, how to market on the Internet and let campaigns take their own path through memes and fan participation. He understands how to develop games quickly and efficiently as proven by his PSP credits, and, most importantly, he understands the Western gaming audience and what the trends are.

And right now, that trend is shifting towards a universal gaming platform: the PC. Consoles will soon become a thing of the past unless Nintendo is still doing its thing, and Square Enix almost certainly has its eye on developing Final Fantasy XV for the PC. We’ve seen it before with nearly every other game in the franchise now up for purchase on Steam, and when it happens, I’m no longer in “if” mode here, it’s going to be a fantastic port similar to Grand Theft Auto V, when the developers used the consoles as a practice run for the real deal that came out a year later.

I’m 100 percent sure it’s going to happen, and I only think contractual obligations with Sony and Microsoft are what’s holding back public knowledge of Square Enix’s intentions. After all, what other big third-party exclusives do the PlayStation4 and Xbox One have that are not appearing on PC? Not many anymore. They are hanging by a thread and hemorrhaging reasons to keep their audiences from fleeing to PC. They need something to appeal to their classic userbase, and Final Fantasy XV is it at the moment.

But, the big question here is if Final Fantasy XV were to come to the PC and do so in stunning fashion, would you be willing to wait a year for it? Would you want your vanilla experience of the game to be the practice run on consoles or the main show with the definitive version whenever it launches? I’m on the fence because we’ve already waited so long for Final Fantasy XV, and I just need to see it in action soon. It’s like holding out all day to watch a recorded Super Bowl. I just need to know.

But how about yourself? If you are a Final Fantasy fan and want the best version possible, would you hold out for a PC version?
