These videos have become old hat by now, but something interesting is going on with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Now, keep in mind, this game could and probably will be patched soon, but this is how things stand for now.

Digital Foundry did their usual framerate test for the two console versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. You can see that in the video above. Here’s the thing… The Xbox One version runs with a cap and typically sits between 30 and 40fps. The PS4 version? That’s capped at 30fps, and it regularly dips and temporarily locks to 20fps.

If you know a thing or two about resolutions and framerates, you’ll probably know what’s going on here. Sony’s rolling at 1080p, while Microsoft is hitting things with 900p.

What’s interesting here is that Digital Foundry still slightly gives the nod to the PlayStation 4. The higher resolution is a big chunk of that, but the Xbox One isn’t quite as consistent. The article argues that while the Xbox One can produce faster framerates, the jumps tend to make it seem to stutter more often. The PlayStation 4’s cap still struggles, but the stutters aren’t as large.

The moral of the story? Go with the PC version if framerates and graphics are your primary concern. If you, like me, find money a bit too tight to upgrade your rig right now, go with the platform you usually love. The PlayStation 4 might have an edge right now, but it seems like a patch will bring both versions so close together that the disparity will go unnoticed.
