windows-phone-7.8A report from WMPowerUser suggests it won’t be long until Windows 7.8 is pushed out to older devices, contradicting previous reports of an early 2013 release. At a private briefing held by Microsoft and Nokia in Singapore, representatives allegedly told attendees that the upgrade has been Released to Manufacturing (RTM), meaning its public roll out could be but a few days away.

Microsoft’s latest mobile OS has been available for public consumption since late October, with devices like the Lumia 920 and HTC 8X slowly making their way into consumer hands. But for those who are unable to upgrade their kit right this second, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.8 brings some of the company’s WP8 features on over to existing handsets.

It’s unclear how wide and how quick the roll out will be, but it sounds like users will only have to wait a matter of days, and not weeks, before something materializes.
