Nintendo is joining the modern wireless world slowly but surely, one step at a time. The latest 5.1.0 update to the Wii U will now allow you to transfer data between two Wii U consoles. Shipping your save files, apps, and even full-fledged games to an entirely new console has never been easier.
Don't just go wantonly shifting your library between friends, because this option will wipe your Wii U clean of its memory and format it back to factory settings. To get it back, the Wii U console you've transferred it to will instead be forced to format, as detailed by Nintendo.
It's handy I suppose if you are looking to dump your unused game collection onto a friend, or if you've updated and bought a newer console. At least all you have to do is push a "System Transfer" button and align Wii U pads. It's much simpler than transferring your old Wii games.
The other update Nintendo has installed actually seems far more useful as the 5.1.0 update gives online shoppers the ability to search the Nintendo eShop with the Wii Remote, Classic Controller, and Wii Pro Controller. Why? Because why not? Who wants to hassle with the Wii U Gamepad anyway despite its comfortable analog stick and d-pad, convenient touch screen capabilities, and the fact that you don't even need to have the TV turned on it use it.
Version 5.1.0 U, available via an Internet connection, includes the following improvements:New Features:
- Wii U to Wii U System Transfer
- Users can now transfer (move) all software and data from one Wii U to another
- A "System Transfer" option has been added within System Settings
- Click here for additional information on this feature
Changes to Nintendo eShop:
- Users can now navigate the Nintendo eShop using a Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller, or Classic Controller
Improvements to system stability and usability:
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience
So yeah, nothing big or exciting like Quick Start, but it's an update.
