Koei Tecmo is currently holding a poll deciding who the most popular Dead or Alive girl is. The results of this poll will be used to determine who will make it into the final cut of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, and sadly, there are only 9 spots and 15 girls to choose from.
The poll is at its halfway point, and fans are voting by downloading each character’s individual PlayStation background themes. Let’s see who is in the lead.
Translated into English, we have:
- Marie Rose: 17.1%
- Honoka: 14.8%
- Kasumi: 11.5%
- Ayane: 9.2%
- Kokoro: 8.3%
- Nyotengu: 7.2%
- Hitomi: 6.4%
- Momiji: 4.9%
- Lei Fang: 4.6%
Whew, Lei Fang is barely making the cut, but she is holding in there. Thank goodness. I’ve been out of the Dead or Alive scene for quite some time, but I at least recognize a few of the older names like Kasumi, Ayane, and Hitomi. The rest must be the new hotness, because they don’t ring a bell.
The six that are currently not ranked hold a few other names I can pick out, and they stand at:
- Helena: 4.2%
- Tina: 3.9%
- Mila: 3.0%
- Rachel: 1.7%
- Lisa: 1.7%
- Christie: 1.7%
Tina has been a mainstay of the Dead or Alive series since the very first game. Helena and Christie have also been around since the series really took off with the third game. I guess legacy and longevity have nothing to do with popularity among Dead or Alive fans, huh? Looking at pictures of Marie Rose, an angel faced lolicon anime doll come to life, and Honoka, a spoiled J-idol fantasy gone five steps too far, it’s easy to see why the Otaku crowd are choosing them over the longtime favorites.
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC only in Japan. Koei Tecmo says it will come to the States if the demand is there. I can guarantee that if poll leader Marie Rose makes the roster though, the game doesn’t come out.
18? Really, Koei Tecmo? You’re going to have to try harder than that.
