Welcome to this brand-spankin’-new TechnoBuffalo feature we’re going to try and run once every week. We’ve got ourselves an outstanding, talkative community and we’re looking to harness that and spur it along with a weekly debate topic.

So, every Friday, I’ll toss up a debatable challenge, you folks will vote and discuss. I’ll also be posting the results of the previous week’s poll with a little editorialization.

Hello, again! After a week-long hiatus (blame me, I was sick), we’re back with another edition of our Weekly Gaming Poll. The question, as I’ll explain once I get down to asking it, relates to the type of gameplay experiences you’ll find in two different games that exist in the same genre.

But, before we get to that poll and this week’s discussion, let’s talk a little bit about the results from our previous poll.

I know, I know, I know, this was an awkward one. Does violence in games matter?

I was really hoping you folks would answer the poll and then hit the comment section to defend your stance. And, honestly, a lot of you did. See, because this poll indirectly asks an even more important question than “are games hurting our children?” It asks how integral violence is to the gaming medium.

For I’m more than sure that a lot of the “no” choosers would tend to agree with the assessment that violence is an important part of the gaming pie. Shooting, killing, slicing, stabbing and blowing stuff up are all part of core, fun gaming mechanics. The “no” choosers likely chose “no” because they figure violence in games doesn’t hurt kids.

Personally, I think violence is something that gaming, and any medium with a story, relies on. Violence is part of the human story. Without it, conflicts wouldn’t be worth writing about and fictionalizing. Films, comics, books, music and television all use violence as a device to express their stories. So do games.

Regardless, this week’s poll!

I’ve heard from a lot of gamers that Saints Row is better than GTA (and, vise versa). I decided it was time we posed you the option. Which game is better…?
