Leaving your smartphone behind at a bar or coffee shop will become a thing of the past thanks to a new Android Wear app called Wear Aware. The free download provides users with a helpful alert whenever their wearable loses connection with their phone, warning them that it’s no longer close by.
Until I learned to put my smartphone straight back into my pocket when I’ve finished using it, I used to forget it all the time when I was out and about. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had to dash back to a store or a restaurant to get it hoping that it hasn’t already been taken home by someone else.
If you’re as forgetful as I am, then you need Wear Aware. Once installed, it recognizes the Bluetooth connection between your phone and your Android Wear watch and then alerts you with vibrations and a visual warning whenever that connection is broken. So if you walk away from your device — or your device is taken from you — then your watch will make sure you know about it.
A similar feature is built into the Pebble smartwatch and Samsung’s Gear devices, however, there’s nothing like it baked into Android Wear out of the box — at least not yet. But this kind of functionality can be a life saver for forgetful folk, and Wear Aware is only going to get better; its creator has promised a new alert feature that will help you relocate missing devices will be added in a future update.
You can download Wear Aware from Google Play now by following the source link below. It’s completely free, and the Android Wear component will be installed automatically so long as your watch is connected to your phone during the installation process.
