Blizzard made a brilliant play to our nostalgia over the weekend at BlizzCon 2018. During the convention's opening ceremonies, Blizzard revealed that it is remaking its classic strategy game Warcraft III with a new release called Warcraft 3: Reforged.
Blizzard referred to the game as a remake "in the truest sense," as its graphics will be completely overhauled and built from scratch and include "a suite of contemporary social and matchmaking features." Four hours of in-game cutscenes have been added to the game, and Blizzard also promised to include The Frozen Throne expansion.
Overall, the experience includes 60 missions and a brand new world editor that allows players to build custom maps.
Warcraft III is an all-time classic and one of the most popular games of its era. Even well after its release in 2002, the game made waves with its Defense of the Ancients mod, which gained tractions throughout the 2000's and eventually became its own franchise… you know, called DOTA.
Yes, a handful of Warcraft III modders pretty changed the course of multiplayer gaming history, and hopefully, many will pick up Warcraft III: Reforged when it comes out. The core game itself is so good that even people who suck at RTS games, like myself, love it to pieces.
Warcraft 3: Reforged will be released in 2019 for $29.99.
