James Wan's star is on the rise, with his latest smashing success coming with the release of Furious 7 (which, by the way, has already garnered almost $400 million worldwide). So what's next for the director? According to the Hollywood Reporter, he's the front-runner to helm Aquaman.

Wan has built a reputation as a horror aficionado, but he's proved he can crossover into more mainstream cinema with the latest Fast & Furious entry. We've seen Marvel and Disney snatch up some big directors for their upcoming spinoffs and stand-alone movies, so it would make sense to see Warner Bros. in a hurry to secure Wan's services before a competitor does. No offer has been made, Hollywood Reporter said, but he's high atop the list.

Jason Momoa has already signed on to star as the underwater superhero, and he's actually going to make an appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which we could see a trailer for as early as May. Aquaman isn't slated to hit theaters until 2018, so there's certainly time to feel it out. But given how hot Wan is right now, executives will no doubt want to make sure they reach a deal sooner rather than later.
