As the race to EV dominance hangs in the air, multiple carmakers are racing to plant their roadmap for what could make them the dominant EV carmaker. VW is the latest one to do so, and its roadmap looks quite ambitious with the introduction of its latest I.D. concept, the I.D. Vizzion.
Unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, the I.D. Vizzion is a stunning EV sedan that looks like something out of a cyberpunk futuristic world. Smooth lines adorn the exterior while the interior is as minimalistic as you’d expect a self-driving car to be, which means there is no steering wheel, pedals or center display on the dashboard.
VW says the I.D. Vizzion will come with a steering wheel and pedals when it’s manufactured. But there’s another piece to the puzzle that paints the full picture. Drivers will be relayed the driving information through Microsoft’s Hololens. Although it sounds odd, when you consider the car will be driving itself, you won’t be worried about your blindspot as much.
The concept comes with 413 miles of range, all-wheel drive, voice and gesture controls and most interestingly, Level 5 autonomous driving. This will be the backbone of VW’s ambitious “digital chauffeur.” When a driver gets into the car, the car will be able to recognize them via facial recognition or scanning to see if the smartphone is connected to its Bluetooth system, personalize the experience and driving them around as a normal chauffeur would.
Delivering the experience will be a form of A.I. that analyzes the best routes to take and connects smartphones automatically.
The I.D. Vizzion’s look isn’t the only thing that is sporty, its drivetrain is too. VW didn’t get too much into specifics, but did say that it will offer 302 horsepower through the dual front and rear axle electric motors.
So when can you expect the I.D. Vizzion on the road? VW is saying 2022, at the latest. We’re going to hold VW to its word, because we want to take this futuristic car with its own personal chauffeur for a spin.
