It's been the bane of Android smartphones everywhere in 2018: the display notch. But it doesn't have to be this way. One company is rising up to say, "No more!"
After showing off the Apex concept in February, Vivo is teasing a production version of the concept that features a bezel-less display with no notch. None. This screen will go right up to each edge of the phone, making it the first phone to be all-screen.
It's unclear what the final shape of Vivo's smartphone will be when it's officially unveiled. But, as a reminder, the Apex concept features a number of exciting innovations: an edge-to-edge display, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and pop-up front-facing camera. That sounds like the future right there.
Vivo provides a short glimpse of what a working version of this concept will look like in ad up above, which will apparently be the official handset of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In the ad, we see a phone with barely any bezels at all, plus the front-facing camera that pops up like a periscope.
Vivo has already proved it can make a handset with an in-display fingerprint sensor, so we're excited to see if it can deliver on the other promises. We'll find out when Vivo's new handset is announced on June 12.
