Today I went hands-on with Sony Ericsson’s newest smartphones, the wee but powerful Xperia Mini and Mini Pro. Launched just last week, SE brought the X10 mini/pro successors to California for Google I/O. 1GHz processors, dual cameras, and HD video capture pack power behind the phone’s tiny 3″ displays.
I really liked last year’s Xperia X10 mini and mini pro, particularly the pro, which had a very useable QWERTY thumbboard and a clever “Four Corners” user interface that brought customizable shortcuts to the Home Screen’s corners, making for easy one-handed (one-thumbed) use. The new models are faster, sleeker, and run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, making them viable competitors to small-sized smartphones from the likes of HTC and HP. Is there a place in today’s super-sized smartphone world for these cute little droids from Sony Ericsson?
