Rettinger’s Rants: Cellphone Unlocking

by Brandon Russell | March 6, 2013

Jon R. is back with an all new show where he rants and raves on various topics in and out of the tech world. On this week’s episode, Jon rants about the new laws in the United States that prevent consumers from unlocking cellphones. As of January, it is now a crime to unlock a phone without the consent of the wireless carrier. Although most carriers do unlock phones once the contract has been fulfilled, under this new law, they are not required to do so.

Many consumers are opposed to this new law, including the White House who recently drew up a petition to make phone unlocking legal again. Will consumers have a choice with their phones or will the government and wireless providers continue to hold control? All this and more in this episode of Rants!

Check out the video and let us know what you think in the comments below! Also be sure to check out the show every Wednesday on the TechnoBuffalo Revision 3 channel at 5 PM PST.
