Hatchbacks haven’t always been the body-style of choice here in the U.S., but the trend has really taken hold over the past few years. Heeding that charge is Mazda, whose 2013 Mazda 3 has been hitting the road faster than they can be built. Right now, the 3 is one of the hottest hatches you’ll find, complete with SkyActive technology and familiar Mazda styling. We took it for a spin around town, went zoom-zooming, and got a nice feel for the vehicle.
It’s got a run of the mill 2 liter, 4 cylinder engine putting out 155 horsepower, but don’t let that deceive you. The car is zippy thanks to Mazda’s SkyActive technology, which has a higher compression ratio 14:1 compared to the more standard 10:1 (or sometimes 12:1) of competing cars. This not only leads to a quick and responsive car, but better fuel economy out on the road. Not bad at all.
