iPhone 4G Leaks & CheckBook Journalism

The world is most definitely talking about the new new iPhone 4G leaks that came out this week.  However, only in hushed whispers are the larger issues of checkbook journalism and the role its role in news reporting.  I don’t blame Gizmodo for buying the phone and sharing it.  In fact, given the opportunity, I’m relatively certain I would have dome the same thing.  However, it it a big of moral gray area.  What I don’t agree with was Gizmodo outing the Apple employee who lost the phone, subsequently thrusting him out into the limelight, and odds are, ruining his career.  I’m mostly just editorializing here, but I am very curious where you stand on this.  Do you agree or disagree?
