Announced in May, the Huawei MateBook X is a supremely constructed laptop that does Windows 10 fans proud.
The highlight of the MateBook X is its gorgeous aluminum design; it looks like a high-end supercar rather than something you slip in your backpack. At 2.31 pounds, the MateBook X is light, making it the perfect option for road warriors. It’s also just 12.5mm thick when closed, which is thinner than Apple’s new MacBook Pro.
Inside, there are options to equip the MateBook X with Intel’s seventh generation Core i5 or i7 processors, up to 512GB of SSD storage, and up to 8GB of RAM. Unfortunately, power users won’t be able to configure the device with 16GB of RAM or higher, which is disappointing. Still, at 8GB of RAM with a Core i7 processor, the MateBook X will be plenty powerful enough for the average user.
The 13-inch display features a 2K resolution and slim 4.4mm bezels all around, though it’s not touch screen. According to Huawei, the laptop’s battery should last up to 10 hours while watching Full HD video.
Where the MateBook X really excels—and a feature that’s often overlooked by companies—is the device’s speakers. It sports a Dolby Atmos Sound System that sounds absolutely fantastic, whether you’re watching video or playing music. We’ve been using it around the office and it knocks the pants off sound produced by Apple’s newest MacBook Pro.
Other features include a fingerprint/power button combo, spill-resistant keyboard, and a fanless design.
Clearly, Huawei stepped its game up when designing the MateBook X. You can learn more about the laptop in the video above.
