Fun Facts: Five Facts You Didn’t Know About Samsung

You probably recognize Samsung because of its lineup of smartphones and tablets. But the South Korean company is actually much larger than just its lineup of Galaxy devices. Founded in 1938, Samsung actually has a number of industrial subsidiaries, which include Samsung Heavy Industries, Samsung Engineering, Samsung Life Insurance and, of course Samsung Electronics, among others. Did you know the meaning of the Korean word Samsung is “tristar,” or “three stars?” Or that the company employs almost half a million people worldwide?

You may recognize a company’s name, but how much do you actually know about the company? How big of a fan are you? Samsung is a multinational conglomerate that does a lot more than you think; the Galaxy S5 is just a small part of a much larger picture. Instead of focusing on what Samsung has in store for the future, we thought we’d take a look at some of the company’s history, and sort through facts that you might not otherwise have known. So, we present to you, five Samsung facts.
