Amazon’s Kindle fire HD 8.9 is shockingly nice to hold, finished with a black soft-touch back, and quite beautiful. The standard Amazon achieved with its 7-inch HD felt like a pivotal step forward in the company’s race to stay competitive in the tablet market, and its 8.9-inch brother takes that a step further.
It’s a solidly constructed piece of technology, thin, and highlighted by a display that’s among the best there is. Zooming around the carousel is simple, and accessing your favorite content couldn’t be easier. This is the same experience we saw with the smaller Fire HD, but it seems to be heightened by the larger real estate. That’s could be a matter of preference among consumers, and Amazon obviously felt strongly about that by deciding to offer two separate sizes.
This is designed for content consumption through and through, with direct access to Amazon’s ecosystems only a tap away. We’ll spend the next week putting the 8.9 Fire HD through its paces, and hopefully have a review for it soon. For now, check out the video for a full unboxing and hands-on.
