New iPad - 4G LTE

If you’re undecided on which carrier to go with before purchasing your new LTE capable iPad, a new report from 9to5 Mac on Thursday may make your decision a bit easier. Apple made it a point to acknowledge the new iPad will offer the ability to tether to other devices. But that feature obviously does no good if the carrier you’re with doesn’t support it. So which is the better option, AT&T or Verizon?

According to 9to5 Mac, Verizon will offer the mobile hotspot feature right out of the gate and it is being included in the new iPad’s data plans. Per a Verizon spokesman, “Our 4G LTE tablets have the mobile hotspot feature and it is included in the tablet data plans so for example, customers who sign up for the $30 for 2GB plan will also have access to the mobile hotspot feature.”

AT&T, on the other hand, does not currently support the new iPad’s mobile hotspot capabilities, but the carrier said, “We are working with Apple to enable this feature in the future.”

So Verizon customers will be able to enjoy the feature on March 16 when the new iPad is released, while AT&T customers will not. The device still doesn’t arrive for another week, so perhaps AT&T can hash out whatever is keeping the carrier from supporting the new iPad’s mobile hotspot before then.
