Verizon activated five new 4G LTE markets on Thursday, including locations in Somerset, Ky.; Presque Isle, Maine; Great Falls, Mont.; Scotts Bluff, Neb.; and Athens, Ohio. Verizon Wireless now covers more than 273 million people in 486 markets across the U.S., which is rather impressive considering the latest census data shows there are 315 million people living in the U.S.

Verizon's LTE network is the largest in the U.S., followed by AT&T and Sprint. T-Mobile will launch its LTE network this year, and we expect to hear more on the topic during the carrier's press event in New York City next week.
