Following T-Mobile's lead, America's top carriers all introduced individual early-upgrade smartphone plans last year. Now Verizon is expanding its own Edge plan to cover Apple and Android tablets, matching another service already offered by T-Mobile.
Verizon quietly introduced the new service earlier Monday, updating its website to include an Edge option for a wide selection of iPads and Android slates. The carrier's early-upgrade plan lets you pay off a device's full price in 24 monthly payments. Once you've paid for 60 percent of the new tablet, however, you'll be able upgrade to a new model without getting hit with any extra fees. You can upgrade as soon as 30 days after picking out your new tablet, though most of the time you'll probably only need to trade-in your device about once or twice per year.
At the top of Verizon's tablet offerings is the Xperia Z2 Tablet, which just hit the U.S. market and costs $29.99 per month with an Edge contract. You can also grab the Galaxy Tab 4 ($18.99 per month), the iPad Air ($31.49 per month), the Retina iPad mini ($26.49 per month) or the Nexus 7 ($17.49 per month).
