After smashing it at the box office, Sony Pictures is moving forward with Venom 2, which could potentially find Eddie Brock and his dangerous symbiote take on Carnage.
According to Variety, Venom 2 will be written by Kelly Marcel, who co-wrote the first film alongside Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Apparently, Marcel is being given a significant pay raise and executive producer duties, which sounds like quite the promotion.
Although no details are known about Venom 2, Sony already put some pieces into place. In a post-credits scene in Venom, audiences were introduced were introduced to Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who subtly hints that he’ll take on the Carnage role.
Considering Kasady is currently in prison, it’s unclear how he’ll acquire a symbiote, but it will likely relate to the events of the first film, which saw the Life Foundation conduct wicked trials with symbiote samples.
As of now, Venom has grossed over $850 million at the global box office, all but obligating Sony to make a sequel. Whenever Venom 2 hits—Variety suggests it could be as early as October 2020—Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams are expected to star.
