Jailbreaking your iPhone and iPod Touch may have become a sport for some but for the last month, the iPad has been strictly under Apple’s control.  We first saw the untethered jailbreak possibilities from GeoHot, notorious iPhone hacker responsible for the first in the world iPhone jailbreak.  Now live, you’re free to try out another jailbreaker’s public untethered hack.

Left unreleased until the iPad 3G + Wifi hit the market, the Spirit jailbreak is now available for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad devices running OS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, and 3.2.  All you need is an activated device and any version of iTunes 9 to date.

iPad-ers are warned to proceed with caution as many packages within Cydia could make things go a little wonky and require a software restore.  That’s not fun.  If you’re eager to free your device from Apple’s death grip, head on over to SpiritJB and get your hacking on.  Remember kiddies, always back up your device before you try anything funny or you may end up less than happy when things don’t go as planned.

Are you taking the plunge into the jailbreak world?  Let us know what device you’re performing surgery on and how the process goes.  Now it’s only a matter of time until we get a free, less than legit means to tether the iPhone to the iPad.
