We warned you yesterday that the street date for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End had been broken, opening the door for spoilers. The root cause of the breach, Sony says, is straight-up theft.

A blog post to the official PlayStation blog by SCE President Shuhei Yoshida explains that the copies were “stolen while in transit,” and that Sony is working with local police. Initial stories had those with the game picking them up from a UK electronics retailer. That might still be true, but if that’s the case then it’s likely that retailer purchased them through some pretty shady means.

This news also rolls back concerns that copies of Uncharted 4 are just sitting in the back rooms of game shops doing nothing while we wait for two weeks. SIE CEO Shawn Layden explained that this last delay was about meeting demand, and that still seems to be holding true.

Uncharted 4 releases on May 10. Until then, watch out for spoilers and, apparently, actual, real thieves.
