Those of you in the U.S. have been enjoying $99 TouchPads for three days now, and us Brits are feeling a little left out. Sure, HP has announced the device’s demise, and we’re not sure what’s going to happen to its webOS operating system, but our grandmothers aren’t aware of these things and they just want a tablet for Christmas.

HP TouchPad

Thankfully, some U.K. retailers have announced that the TouchPad will be available from just £89 (approx. $146) from later today. Dixons, which is owned by DSG Retail, will be the first to reduce the device through its website later on today, with its Head of Media Relations, Mark Webb, confirming the price slash on Twitter:

“ HP Touchpad SALE, Limited Stock online from later today. £89 for the 16gb and £115 for the 32gb.”

Currys and PC World, who are also owned by DSG Retail, will follow with reductions from tomorrow morning.

The 16GB device will be available from just £89, while the 32GB device will be reduced to £115 (approx. $189) with all three retailers. However, you’ll have to be pretty quick if you want to snap one up. Webb has already confirmed that stock is limited, and the new prices are significantly less that those currently advertised.

The 16GB tablet is currently selling for £350 (approx. $576) through Dixons’ website, with the 32GB device at £450 (approx. $740). And with reports that the device could soon have its own Android operating system, it may not be obsolete as quickly as we first though.

It’s unclear at present whether other U.K. retailers will be dropping their prices, but I can’t imagine them holding on to those £350/£450 price tags for too long.

Will you be grabbing a TouchPad in the U.K. later today?
