Through the events of Avengers: Infinity War, two key MCU characters are noticeably missing: Ant-Man and the Wasp. The omission is magnified by the fact that they have their own movie coming out next month. We’ve received various non-answers about them being AWOL, with Infinity War even saying that Ant-Man was under house arrest, yet it wasn’t until now that the actors playing the characters threw in an interesting wrench in all of our theories.
Stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly have begun their press junket for Ant-Man and the Wasp and naturally they have a lot of questions to answer about their characters not being in Avengers: Infinity War. The topic came up during an interview with NDTV, when Lilly gave an answer that took us by surprise.
Asked about their absence, Rudd responded, “I remember going to see Infinity War when they do mention that I was under house arrest and I was not able to leave. There’s a lot going on.” To which Lilly responded, “For the record, I was there. I was just tiny.” After which Rudd continued and said he may have been in the movie as his miniature self.
That was quite an assured response from Lilly. Multiple theories have been thrown out there about what type of role the two characters have in Avengers 4. Since they were excluded from Infinity War, it stood to reason they would take a major step up in the next movie. But just maybe, Wasp (and maybe Ant-Man) was in Infinity War playing a role, we just didn’t see them because they were tiny. Then again, she may just be trying to throw us off the trail.
It’s quite a stretch and one that won’t be confirmed until Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters, but it’s also worth noting that the upcoming movie takes place before (and during) Avengers: Infinity War.
We’ll find out exactly what the two were doing when Thanos was battling the Avengers when Ant-Man and the Wasp opens July 6.
