Rainbow Skies, a brand new RPG with turn-based elements, has been announced for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. The developer, SideQuest Studios, included a batch of environmental shots with the news.

Rainbow Skies is the follow-up to last year’s Rainbow Moon, though this sequel is a completely new iteration of story. You won’t need to have played the first to enjoy the second.

Here’s how Marcus Pukropski, CEO at SideQuest, explains what they hope to tackle with this sequel.

Rainbow Skies is more than just a sequel. We’ll be introducing many new features, including monster taming, an advanced battle system with new combo attacks, new dungeon action elements, a new dialog and emoticon system, new treasure hunt quests, an improved side quest system, explorable buildings, and new mini-games.

While no plans for the Cross-Buy program have been announced, SideQuest Studios has indicated that Rainbow Skies will feature the fantastic Cross-Save feature. That means you’ll be able to swap saves freely between your PlayStation 3 and PS Vita copies of the game.

While no exact launch date has been announced, Rainbow Skies is currently slated for 2014. We’ll have more on the game as it comes.
