Top Twitter Engineer Departs to Build Secret For Android

Secret

Twitter celebrated its eighth birthday today, but believe it or not one of the company's top engineers is leaving the nest for a job with a new social app that's barely a month old. Sara Haider, who led Twitter and Vine's Android development, has been tapped to help bring Secret to Android devices, Re/code reports.

After 4.5 incredible years at Twitter, I'll be leaving the flock. Words cannot express the love and pride I have for Twitter and Vine.

Welcome @pandemona to the Secret team. We're extremely lucky to have you onboard. Hello, Android.

Haider's new position as Android lead at Secret will initially mean bringing the app to Android as quickly as she can. The app, which is currently only available on iOS, lets you share messages anonymously within a network of contacts taken from your smartphone as well as friends of friends. The company promises to protect your anonymity, and hasn't run into any security issues so far.

Twitter also confirmed to Re/code that Vice President of Analytics and Business Intelligence Cayley Torgeson is leaving the company. Torgenson reportedly helped build the tools Twitter uses to measure its own performance, and is best equipped to alert the rest of the staff if the site isn't working. It's unclear who will take over his position.

Since going public, Twitter has seen a number of employees cash out and leave to pursue new projects. The company currently employees around 3,000 people, so it's no surprise to see a fair amount of turnover. Still, if Twitter wants to stay competitive against bigger companies like Facebook as well as smaller startups it needs to show it can keep top talent from jumping ship for buzzy mobile apps like Secret.
