This is the first in a new series of "survival" trailers for the upcoming Tomb Raider relaunch from Crystal Dynamix and Square Enix. As per Square, the trailer covers Lara Croft's use of wit to survive.
Okay, why does this trailer remind us of Red Dead Redemption? Remember back when Rockstar was in the process of painstakingly marketing their wild west epic more than two years ago? Part of the process was the release of incredibly descriptive trailers.
These videos felt like History Channel documentaries, and they gave the world of Red Dead a strong sense of purpose and past. That approach to trailer delivery has since been copied and aped for a whole manner of new titles.
Personally, I like the approach for large games with an open world based on a period in history. Tomb Raider is neither factually based nor set in a massive open world, so something feels off here.
Nevertheless, this Guide to Survival series of trailers promises to blow this game out on all sides. How's Tomb Raider looking for you? It's set to release for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms on March 5th, 2013.
