Tomb Raider Underworld

Whether you are an old man like myself or a young sproutling of a gamer, you no doubt have had some experience with the Tomb Raider franchise. I first stumbled across it during my formative years on the PlayStation and had some new emotions I never experienced before when it came to Lara Croft. Other gamers are maturing a little bit nowadays and have the new gritty, realistic, "totally not Uncharted" Tomb Raider reboot to lure them into the franchise.

And maybe there are a few of you who first stumbled across her in Angel of Darkness, and for that, all I have is pity. I am so sorry.

Regardless of where you got your start, Steam has a sale this week that has something for you! The entire Tomb Raider franchise has been slashed to 80 percent off the normal price, and even the recent reboot can be snagged for just $3.99! It might have started off as a massive financial train wreck, but this game has become one of the most stupidly successful slow-burns in history. Seriously, who doesn't own this game at this point?

Readers might know I'm not the biggest fan of this game though, so I instead turn your attention to the trilogy Crystal Dynamics was working on before it decided to take a turn to the dark side. Tomb Raider: Legend, Anniversary and Underworld are all wonderful games from the franchise that adhere more to the older rules and evolve them nicer than you might expect. Legend is available for $1.39, and Underworld and Anniversary can be snagged for $1.79 each.

Also don't forget to look out for Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which is a wonderful spin on the Tomb Raider franchise, treating it as an isometric action puzzle game with astounding co-op. On paper, it sounds like just the worst thing ever, but in practice, it's out of the this world. Pick it up for $1.99 to prepare for the direct sequel, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, due for release on Dec. 9.

The entire classic series of five games can be nabbed for $1.39 each as well. Tomb Raider 2 is the clear winner of that bunch, and the original is of course a classic.

Or you can just pony up $15.99 and snag the entire series and be done with it. The only problem is that you'll have Tomb Raider VI: Angel of Darkness stuck in your Steam library like a pest you just can't seem to flick off. Maybe you can just buy them individually, and the extra bit of money is worth not having to deal with the shame.

The deal ends tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT, so you have plenty of time to choose. Again, I'd go with classic Tomb Raider 1 and 2, the Legend/Anniversary/Underworld trilogy, Lara Croft and the Guardians of Light, and the Tomb Raider reboot just because the $3.99 price is worth it.
