Ubisoft’s solid 2014 line-up has taken a huge hit now that Tom Clancy’s The Division has been pushed back into the following year. Developers have confirmed that the MMO shooter will be released in 2015.
Ubisoft provided no reasons for the delay, but thanked its fans for understanding and support while stating that development was becoming “stronger everyday.”
Working on The Division is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of us at Massive, Reflections, and Red Storm Entertainment. We are creating something we are really proud of and we don’t want to compromise on quality. We are going to release the game when it’s ready.
We want to thank you again for the exceptional ongoing support. Community is at the heart of what we are doing and we’re very much designing the game with you in mind, so your involvement means a lot to us.
A lot of pressure has been piled onto The Division‘s success. Assassin’s Creed and Watch_Dogs have both claimed Ubisoft’s stake on next-gen consoles, but The Division is the company’s first major game to be released without being held back by a cross-generation launch. The Snowdrop engine created to power Ubisoft’s next gen titles will make its debut with the game and push its graphical capabilities beyond what the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were capable of.
Ubisoft showed off the game at E3 last year, and its recreation of a wintry New York City was absolutely stunning. Not just in the gameplay department, but the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One’s seamless connectivity are promising to create a previously impossible constant open-world. As you can see, the ambition of The Division is going to set the pace for what Ubisoft is capable of on the next-gen hardware.
We are anxiously awaiting more on this exciting MMO third-person shooter.
