Every once in a while, an upcoming game, no matter how seemingly small it is, shows up and looks so cool that it needs to be shared. Will Tokyo 42 be a colossal hit? I have no idea. I do know, however, that it looks incredible.

We have a fresh trailer for the game, its proper description thanks to a press release, some new screenshots and a rough release window.

Tokyo 42 will hit the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms in 2017. Right then, what is it? Here’s the word from Mode 7 and SMAC per the release.

Tokyo 42 is an action title inspired by classics like Syndicate and GTA1. It’s viewed from an isometric perspective but the camera can be rotated to reveal every facet of its intricately designed open-world.

Bullet physics, jumping with air control, sneaky stealth and crowd simulation all play a role in this ultra-colourful kinetic frenzy.

You’re a budding freelance assassin in a world where sinister forces are at play, taking on missions to pay your way and becoming embroiled in all sorts of cyber-shenanigans. There are also cats.

The release indicates that there will, in fact, be a multiplayer “arena mode” that will let players blend in with the crowd by changing skin before exploding “into view with a flurry of overly ambitious rockets.” I’m down with that.

The game’s style and music really have my attention. We’ll have more on Tokyo 42 as it comes, so stay tuned.
