ToeJam and EarlSEGA's funkadelic alien rapper duo will be the next Genesis mascots to get a revival on HD consoles, falling in line with just about every other 16-bit hit published for their most successful console. ToeJam & Earl and its sequel, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, will be available to download through Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Store on November 6th.

The new versions of the games have been updated with better resolutions, trophy and achievement support, and most interestingly, online co-op.

Both games have always been playable with a friend through local multiplayer, but I'm still trying to wrap my brain around yelling at a teammate through a microphone after falling ten floors through one of ToeJam and Earl's randomly generated maps. Not a lot of co-op games can put you in as bad of a mood as ToeJam and Earl, so perhaps the online mode will provide an extra layer of safety when raging about your partner's inability to keep up.

Luckily, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron provides a much more relaxing co-op experience, sacrificing much of the original's chaotic randomness for a much simpler and standard 2D platforming affair. Some might call it missing the point, but I never got into a fight with a friend over the mundane sequel.

Be careful because the pricing can be a bit confusing. On the XBLA, both games will be bundled together for 800 MS Points, but PlayStation owners have the option of buying the games individually for $5 each. Still no word on ToeJam and Earl III: Mission to Mars getting an HD facelift yet, but I think Microsoft wants nothing to do with that stinker.
