It may not be long before Motorola resurrects its famed RAZR brand with a new foldable smartphone, according to a recent report. Now, thanks to a new patent filing, we may have our first look at what the device looks like.

Discovered by 91Mobiles, the registration reveals a blend of old and new. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think the device is the same RAZR phone that rose to fame in the early 2000s.

But look a more closely and you can see that once the device is flipped open, it looks more like a traditional smartphone. Apparently, the device Motorola is planning to release will retail for up to $1,500.

It’s an interesting evolution on the old RAZR design. When closed, it looks like a flip phone; open it up and it becomes a lot more appealing, showcasing why the device might actually be worth considering in 2019.

Although we don’t know if this is what Motorola plans to release, it’s nice to see that the company is thinking outside of the box. It’s just a matter of Motorola executing its vision.

While the majority of smartphones in 2019 will feature a notch or a hole punch display, there will also be a wave of foldable smartphones, including a device from Samsung. Unfortunately, these devices could be very expensive, if the Wall Street Journal’s recent report is anything to go on.

If rumors are correct, we could see Motorola’s foldable smartphone as early as February.
