Those wild theories about Jar Jar Binks being a Sith Lord, rather than a childish klutz, are about to be put to bed. A new novel from Chuck Wendig, the third part in his Star Wars Aftermath: Empire’s End series, will finally reveal what the character has been up to since Revenge of the Sith, and it’s pretty sad.
Note that there are spoilers ahead
According to Mashable, in the third book of Wendig’s series, there’s an interlude chapter called “Theed, Naboo,” which refers to the capital of a planet Jar Jar explored with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn.
Is Jar Jar now part of the capitol’s political system? Maybe he owns his own business? Not quite.
Apparently, a young boy comes across a street performer, who tells the boy, “Meesa Jar Jar.” Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
Jar Jar tells the boy that he had “makin’ some uh-oh mistakes,” which explains why he’s now performing on the streets.
Here’s a portion of Wendig’s description of what Jar Jar does as a street performer:
Sometimes the Gungan does different things, things you’ve never seen, things you’ll never see again. Just a few days ago, he splashed into the fountain’s center, then pretended to have the streams shoot him way up in the air…
The close, they called him. “Bring the clown. We want to see the clown. We like it how he juggles glombo shells, or spits fish up in the air and catches them, or how he dances around and falls on his butt.”
The adults, though, they don’t say much about him, or to him. And no other Gungang come to see him, either. Nobody even says his name.
Jar Jar haters rejoice
For fans who detest Jar Jar, the story will be a satisfying conclusion. He once helped the Gungan’s defeat the Trade Federation. Now, he spends his days performing as a clown, alone and ignored by his people. Even by Star Wars standards, that’s a cruel, sad fate.
If you want to read the full story for yourself, Wendig’s Star Wars Aftermath: Empire’s End will be released on February 21.
