You’ll need to save 4K videos in mp4 format on either a USB stick or your home media server in order to play them in the PS4 Pro’s Media Player application. The updated app will show your home server as a media option automatically.

The PlayStation Blog issued a reminder for USB storage that we should be wary of.

USB storage that’s already been formatted as extended storage for your PS4 can only be used to save games and apps — it can’t be used to save and play videos.

This goes for PS VR, too

If you have both a PlayStation 4 Pro and PS VR, this update applies double to you. The PS VR’s display resolution is, according to the PlayStation Blog, 1920 X RGB X 1080, so 4K VR videos will be displayed in a higher image quality compared to HD VR videos.”

More 4K video is always a good thing, especially when it comes in the form of flexible viewing potential.
