Okay, seriously, will you be buying a PlayStation 3 now?

Sony just announced during its Gamescom presser in Cologne, Germany that, starting today, the PlayStation 3's base model is dropping in price by $50. The 160GB model is moving from $299 to $249, and the 320GB model will now cost $299.

Also announced in the slash was the addition of inFamous 2 to the 320GB model of the PlayStation 3. That bundle will sell for the aforementioned $299. We'll float this out there for you to consider: for $50 more you get a $60 game and an additional 160GB of storage space.

Where the announcement was published by Sony on the net, the official PlayStation.Blog expanded on the idea that now is an incredible time to be buying into the PlayStation 3 console. Even if it's all PR speak, I'm going to have to agree with them. For a system that initially launched into a world of relatively sparse exclusives, the PlayStaion 3 is finally hitting its stride. This year alone will see, or has already seen, inFamous 2, Uncharted 3, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, LittleBigPlanet 2Resistance 3 and several great classics collections like God of War, Sly Cooper and the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection.

It's time for a little honesty, friends. Gather round … I am proud to say that I am currently a gamer on all platforms. Every portable, home console and mobile device that's game capable, I'm all over it. The PlayStation 3 was actually the last addition to my arsenal, not counting the 3DS. I was hesitant because of the lackluster exclusives surrounding the machine. Compared to the PS2's library, the PS3's started out like, frankly, utter garbage.

But here I stand, a PlayStation 3 converted. PlayStation.Blog has it right: now is a great time to be getting into the PS3 console. If you've hesitated before, go buy your PS3 now.

Yes, seriously, now … stop reading and pay attention to the road!
