This weekend’s The Lego Batman Movie won’t be the only Lego-themed movie we get in 2017. Warner Bros. on Wednesday released the first trailer for The Lego Ninjago Movie, a film based on a popular line of sets produced by Lego.
The Lego Ninjago Movie will tell the story of six ninjas who team up to fight against Lord Garmadon, the farther of Lloyd (Dave Franco) and brother of Sensei Wu (Jackie Chan). It’s complicated.
The movie’s official synopsis describes plenty of shenanigans:
6 ninjas are “hired” by an old Sensei and become the “heroes” at night, defeating monsters and riding awesome vehicles. Meanwhile, a hungry warlord plots for revenge on his brother, Wu, who was the Sensei that trainer the ninja
The rest of the cast includes Michael Peña as Kai, Fred Armisen as Cole, Kumail Nanjiani as Jay, Zach Woods as Zane, and Abbi Jacobsn as Nya.
This is the second spin-off from The Lego Movie
With every new spin-off, The Lego Movie franchise gets bigger, and there’s no telling where Warner Bros. will go from here. Considering how much content there was in The Lego Movie, any spin-off is fair game.
The Lego Batman Movie is scheduled to hit theaters this Friday, followed by a sequel to The Lego Movie in 2019 and a movie called The Billion Brick Race, which doesn’t currently have a release date. Based on audience reception to The Lego Batman Movie, I’m guessing Warner Bros. has many more ideas percolating.
The Lego Ninjago Movie hits theaters on September 22.
