It’s been a while in the West since we last heard from Nihon Falcom’s popular The Legend of Heroes franchise, but all signs are pointing towards a fall release of its second most recent game, Trails of Cold Steel.

Niche Gamer has discovered that the Spanish arm of retailer GAME listed the title, and it will be released for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on Oct. 23. In Europe, the game will apparently be published by NIS America, but North America already has a domain registered by XSEED. The two have collaborated on European releases before.

Actually, this revelation about the domain came at the same time we learned about Tokyo Xanadu’s, another Nihon Falcom game we frequently mention around here. XSEED has said nothing official about these two games yet, but we could be hearing about it at E3 this year.

The Legend of Heroes games don’t nearly have the same presence in North America as they do in Japan. They are delightfully old school JRPGs in a way that very few companies can really pull off anymore. The last we heard from it was The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky back on the PSP in 2011 and PC last year. Trails of Cold Steel clocks in five entries later in the series, and it has a direct sequel in Japan simply titled Trails of Cold Steel 2.

The four chapters in between these two games are slowly coming out with The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Second Chapter due for a PC release later this year.

More news on The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel as it becomes official. Take one look at that feature image and agree with me that this game was clearly inspired by Final Fantasy Type-0.
