The last time I wrote about this series, I expressed how utterly confusing and convoluted its canon and release order can be. At least this is something I can wrap my brain around! The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is a widely loved cult-classic JRPG for the PSP and PC, and this is its direct sequel. I know this because the “SC” in the title stands for “Second Chapter.”

Clean and simple! Thanks, Nihon Falcom!

XSEED has been promising a full localization of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC for quite some time, and it finally has a solid release date. You can pick it up through the PlayStation Network for the PSP, playable on the Vita, and Steam on Oct. 29, this coming Thursday, for $29.99.

Developed by legendary RPG specialists Nihon Falcom, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in The Sky SC picks up mere hours after the conclusion to The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, with Estelle traveling across Liberl in search of Joshua. Her journey involves more than seeking loved ones, however, as the Bracer Guild also tasks her with unraveling the mysteries behind the newly unveiled Society of Ouroboros.

In The Legend of Heroes: Trails in The Sky SC, Falcom’s celebrated Sound Team jdk returns with a massive and highly lauded score that perfectly complements the tumultuous resolution to one of the most moving and expansive JRPGs ever created. The series’ staple strategic turn-based system with unmatchable customization has been taken even further with all new arts, crafts, upgraded orbments, and combo attacks. The meticulously detailed land of Liberl awaits the player’s return with new quests, mini-games and collectibles to offer, along with a host of both new and familiar locations that are populated with hundreds of unique NPCs, each featuring his or her own story to tell.

Apparently, the The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky was a massive game to translate and didn’t sell all that well, meaning XSEED had been financially unable to translate either of the direct sequels up until now. I wonder what changed between then and now to put XSEED in a better financial position… Oh yeah…

Senran Kagura Burst (2)

I guess I have to thank Senran Kagura for something.

That reminds me, playing the first game was a gaming New Year’s Resolution of mine, and I still haven’t gotten around to that. I sadly don’t think I’ll be making that Dec. 31 deadline. I still have to blow through the last few hours of The Legend of Legacy, series not related, and the call of some of my older favorites has been just too strong to ignore.

Man, being an adult sucks.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC launches for the PSP and PC on Oct. 29. You can play the PSP version through your Vita, and I’m hoping it’s a hit! Maybe someone over at Sony and Capcom will notice that PSP releases are still viable and will jump-start the Breath of Fire III port. Like I said, the call of some older favorites…
