The Last of Us was one of the best-loved games of 2013, and the DLC that followed, Left Behind, was almost as well received.

Now Left Behind will get its own, standalone download on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Where The Last of Us was the story of Joel and Ellie’s journey westward in hopes of curing the cordyceps virus that tore apart humanity, Left Behind was a prequel that followed Ellie and her friend Riley’s relationship in the days directly preceding the main game.

Naughty Dog’s Community Strategist Arne Meyer wrote on the PlayStation Blog that “if you haven’t had a chance yet to check out The Last of Us, this is a nicely priced gateway to checking out the world and characters so many people (and critics) loved.”

I loved The Last of Us enough to buy it twice, and Left Behind ended up being one of my favorite parts. This decision comes weirdly late in the game’s life cycle, but it’s still another way to experience the game, which many fans may have missed the first time around.

Left Behind‘s standalone version hits PS3 and PS4 on May 12 for $9.99. If you have The Last of Us already, the Left Behind add-on will be dropping in price on PlayStation 3 as well.
