Bethesda has always done a good job of picking up high price actors to voice its characters: Ron Pearlman, Patrick Stewart, Sean Bean, Liam Neeson, Malcolm MacDowell, Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer. The list goes on and on of top class talent Bethesda has been able to snag over the years, and The Elder Scrolls Online will be continuing the tradition.

Bethesda has once again snagged up some of England’s most popular actors, as is required for their British accents in a fantasy world. John Cleese of Monty Python fame and Bill Nighy from Pirates of the Caribbean and Shaun of the Dead top the list as the required two old guys. If you need convincing of Bill Nighy’s fantasy credentials, check out the BBC audiobook production of Lord of the Rings in which he plays a fabulous Sam Gamgee.

Kate Beckinsale has also joined the cast, as well as “Doc Oc” Alfred Molina from Spider Man 2 and “Albus Dumbledore II” Michael Gambon in the later Harry Potter movies. His explanation of his job in the provided trailer is genius. Be sure to give it a watch.

Malcolm MacDowell returns for his second Bethesda quest after being the voice of the droning President John Henry Eden in Fallout 3. He is best known for his performance in A Clockwork Orange and If...

Being an online quest, it is not yet known how much emphasis will be put on the story to give these actors time to shine, but Bethesda has promised to deliver a full blown experience. When have they failed to make good on that?

“This extraordinary group of actors helps bring the distinctive characters in The Elder Scrolls Online to life,” said game director Matt Firor. “In The Elder Scrolls tradition, we sought world class talent to add a deep and enriching component to the immersive world the series offers players.”

Check the press release for more descriptions on the roles these characters will be playing. John Cleese will of course be a humorous character to trounce along the sidelines and Bill Nighy has been elevated to the highest seat in royalty.

The Elder Scrolls Online will be released for PC on April 4, and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One builds are set to follow this summer.
