People often associate virtual reality with gaming but we already know movies are going to be a huge component of the technology in the future. While we wait for these experiences to mature, we have The Conjuring 2 – Experience Enfield, which perfectly demonstrates how VR can heighten a genre like horror.
Ahead of the movie’s June 10 debut, Warner Bros. has released a 360 experience based on the upcoming film, which follows Ed and Lorraine Warren as they investigate paranormal activity at a council house in Enfield, England. If you can stomach it, check out the VR experience above. Warning: It’s not for the faint of heart.
In order to get the maximum experience, it’s best to view the video through a headset while wearing headphones; it also helps if you’re standing up so you can easily look around.
What makes experiences like this so effective is how immersive it feels. There were a few instances when the jump scares didn’t quite hit because I wasn’t looking in the right direction, but otherwise it’s a really cool way to get invested in the world ahead of the movie’s release.
The Conjuring 2 arrives in theaters on June 10, 2016.
